power-station.
Battersea Power Stations is one of the iconic buildings of London, if not Britain. It was designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, who was also responsible for designing another UK icon - the red phone box.
Construction on the power station started in 1929 and was completed in 1939. It was originally built with two chimneys and one generator hall. In the 1950's a second hall/chimneys were built mirroring the original. These two sides are known as A and B.
A rare opportunity to view the power station was presented in the form of an art exhibition - China Power Station Part 1. This is dubbed as a "major exhibition of Chinese contemporary art, architecture and sound". I'm not really bothered about art, but just had to go to visit the power station!
Sadly access to the juicy parts like the gorgeous control rooms were limited / impossible, but still had a nice little visit...
Words can't really describe how big this is. It's taller than the Statue of Liberty, and could leave a footprint the size of Trafalgar Square..
This was the original side of the power station. Inside is a glorious art-deco visual feast. But we couldn't see much of it...
This is the later side. It's much more mundane, but still fantastic...
Between the two sides is a huge hall. It used to have a roof and rooms, but is now totally gutted...
"No photos allowed" in the art exhibition. Sod that.
And yes, that is a lot of rotting apples. The exhibition started two weeks ago, and has two weeks left. Don't know how bad it will smell then!...

Theres some decent photos of the inside on 28dayslater.co.uk - They went in at night in a rather ninja-esque fashion! So they got to see most of it.
Such an amazing building, I'm actually leaving in a minute to have a look around it. I might even go inside... (Well, This is a website about Urbex!)
