hospital.
Colchester is quite a hotspot for closed hospitals. Apart from Severalls, there are at least two more...
Turners is the main hospital in Colchester. Some of the older parts have closed down, but are very well boarded up so can't get into them.
There is also an underground network of tunnels. Had a quick explore of one of them but didn't get very far. My first tunnels though, so mustn't grumble.
In Victorian times, this was called Lexden & Winstree Workhouse - basically a place where poor people were given a home in exchange for doing (often hard) work. It later became St Albright's Hospital and closed in 2006. Because of it's recent closure, it is a bit secure. It was raining so I didn't get any outside shots, but here are a few inside the chapel. There was also a little security car driving around.

Great photos, but sad to see St. Albright's (Lexden & Winstree Workhouse) in such decline. It's shameful that it's being left to rot and go to rack & ruin. It's an important part of our social history that should have been preserved!
