This railway yard is on the outskirts of Cambridge. It was primarily used as a depot to assemble new track panels and concrete sleepers. In later years it was used for general freight.
Not much remains on site now - a few old buildings and a couple of wagons. A couple of aggregate trains visit every week - one area of the yard has been taken over by a huge pile of stones. The old control tower used to occupy this area

RAF Oakington closed many years ago - in 1999 to be precise. A year later the domestic areas were turned into a high security immigration reception centre.
The good news is that technical buildings such as boiler-rooms and hangars aren't on the IRC site. The even better news is that there's a car boot sale on this part of the site every weekend, making access really easy.
But now for some bad news. The whole site is to go to make way for a new Cambridge commuter town...

This may not be the largest location I've featured, but I still found it interesting. It's the old Direction Finding Station for the nearby RAF Warboys base (now mainly industrial units).
And that is about all I know about this location (heck, I'm not even sure that that's correct). If anyone has any further information about, please get in touch. Thanks!

RAF Wyton was home to the Strategic Reconnaissance Force after WW2. More information about the base's history can be found on Wikipedia
The recon role of the base wound down in the 1990s and is now used for logistic purposes. This change in purpose meant that the photographic facilites were no longer needed.
The "photographic factory" now lies derelict outside of the base. It was sold in 2002 for redevelopment, but nothing seems to have happened since then.
