Railway Coach Graveyard - Mk2

Where? near the A1, Yorkshire. Photos 22. Comments 6. Posted 25 March 2007.

For those that remember, I visited a "graveyard" for railway coaches in Warwickshire a few months ago. I thought 8ish coaches dumped in the middle of nowhere was impressive. Well today, that was topped with 37 coaches and a loco! Apparently they were bought by some guy who was going to do them up. But hasn't, and has left them to rot.

Sheffield Post Office

Where? Sheffield. Photos 9. Comments 1. Posted 23 August 2007.

Paid a very quick visit to the old post office in Sheffield one evening. It was built in 1910 as an addition to one built in 1897. It closed in 1999 when a newer one was built nearby and was finally sold for redevelopment in 2006.

It was quite late and I wasn't overly inspired - the place was riddled with asbestos test holes and just lacked any real atmosphere. I think it was also my first proper night-time explore. These factors lead to the few & poor photos.

Thorpe Marsh Power Station

Where? Doncaster, Yorkshire. Photos 55. Comments 36. Posted 24 September 2006.

Thorpe Marsh Power Station closed in 1994. Since then it has gradually been demollished. Well, everything except the cooling towers - 6 of them. The are also two biggish buildings (I have no idea what the were for) and several small buildings.

There are various plans for the site - including a nature reserve, and a landfill site (fiercely objected to by local residents). In reality, nothing will probably happen. The towers still survive because it is feared that any explosion caused would rupture the banks of the nearby canal.
