ROC posts – I’ve never been to one before, so paid a visit to one of my locals. These were used during the Cold War to report any nuclear bursts and monitor fall out. There were well over 1500 of these in the UK! After the Cold War, the MoD decided that they were no longer needed and closed them all.
Watton – Norwich 31
It doesn’t look much from the outside – just a tiny concrete structure and a ventilation shaft. The raised shed-like building is an “Orlit” – a pre-nuclear aircraft observation post.
Going down
You have to climb down 20-or-so feet to get into the post.
Toilet
When you reach the bottom, you are greeted with the toilet!
Main room
This is the main room. Two or three people would observe from in here. They’d also live in there – beds were supplied.
Store cupboard
Is an explanation needed?
On the walls
Varios posters and notices were on the walls…
And that’s it. Quite a fascinating little explore, even if it is basically just a room!
