Whatever happened to Gerry Kok?! when I started at St.Georges we had call him Mr Kok!! Like that would happen now,could you imagine it? Yes Mr Melvin or Mr Harvey! No ty.

I worked at st georges from 1986 until 1997 did my enrolled nurse training then the conversion course to rmn very sad to see the old building in such a state . I have to say during my time there were some of the best times probably the best ward that i worked on was moss you saw true mental illness on there however probably a majority of the chaps who were on there and most had been in hospital 30 to 40 years would not now reqiure hospital admission it was great to work with them though being able to take them out on holiday and try and make a difference to their lives was to me what the job was all about . I hated the first year of my training came close to quitting on more than one occaision then started a 12 week placement on wheaton aston ward loved it 28 beds all the ladies were highley dependent hard work but rewarding . Played football in the hospital team best pitch in stafford shame to see it now . During my time worked on league of friends ,hopton vi melvin and john grobnik ,brocton gerry kok , community , wheaton aston , time at sgi wogan ward , cresswell another good ward jimmy yap , walton we used to have sunday lunch with the residents . Their were good times and not so good times but overall wouldnt change any of it .

Walked home tonight past the old place and saw a group of young uns with cameras,there were a couple more hiding in a hole in the fence,but they weren’t doin a very good job! So hopefully somewhere there will be a few new photos appearing. Does anyone know when the new development will be starting? There’s been a lot of workmen walking around but nothing seems to be getting done. Let’s hope it isn’t going to be a monstrocity like what’s being built on the front of Michael Flanagan/Sandon Villa!!

I think you may find them in the William Salt Library in Stafford. I was looking for some past records and Brian Simms gave me that information. If you look back to the comment made on May 3 rd 2010 you will find Brian’s email address. If anyone can help you, he can.

Hi, My maternal grandmother Florence Clara Lees, worked as a nurse at Stafford Hospital. She was born in 1906 and worked there before having her children. My mother lives abroad now, but she has some old letters from one of the Heads of the hospital asking my Grandmother to consider returning to help run specific wards, she was thought of so highly. She may have known your Gt Aunt in the 30s although I am not yet sure of specific dates, and if she did, be safe in the knowlege that my Grandmother was the most loving and kind person, who knew how to look after sick people with kindness and great knowlege of food for convelesance. Once I have researched more, I will post on this website. Its sad that the hospital is in such a state, however its good to have a glimpse of what the hospital may have once looked like.

I’ve just come on here to catch up… I am so sad to see that the Hospital has suffered arson again! I thought it was a listed building… it should be, so why is it being allowed to suffer in such a way.
I went round last year with a video and was so upset, I would hate to see it now. I wish this site would let you post pictures, I drew the building from a picture I found online in the 1990′s… I’d love to post it!!!!
